ABD'de kasım ayı başında yapılacak başkanlık seçimleri yaklaşırken kamuoyu yoklamaları mücadelenin başa baş geçeceğini gösteriyor.  Seçmenlerin çoğu Başkan Barack Obama’nın politikalarını doğru bulmuyor.

Amerikalı işverenler büyük oranda Cumhuriyetçi Parti’nin başkan adayı Mitt Romney’e destek veriyorlar. Anketlere göre Obama’nın uyguladığı ekonomi politikasının doğru olduğunu düşünen işveren oranının yalnızca yüzde 35 olduğu ortaya çıktı; oysa bu yılın başında işverenlerin Obama’ya desteği yüzde 41 idi. Obama’nın, temelini ve kuruluş felsefesini özel girişimcilerin oluşturduğu bir ülkede sermayenin desteğini gittikçe kaybediyor olması, onun için çok kötü bir gösterge.

Hollywood filmleri ile büyümüş bir toplumun çocukları olarak Amerikalıları fazlası ile serbest ve “ahlak yoksunu” gibi düşünebilirsiniz.  Oysa Amerikan toplumu büyük bir çoğunlukla (buradaki büyük çoğunluk kelimesinin ifade ettiği sayı Türkiye toplam nüfusunun 3 katı anlamı taşır) ahlâki değerlerine bağlı ve muhafazakârdır. Hal böyle olunca, Mormon inancı ile yetişmiş, dini bütün bir insan olan Mitt Romney milli ve manevi değerlere büyük önem veren Amerikan toplumu için önemli bir fırsat anlamı taşıyor.  

Amerika’yı, Amerika yapan değerler üzerinden politika yapan Romney, eşi Ann ile “uyandıklarında, odalarında uyuyan çocuklar görmeyi umdukları zamanlardan” bahsederken yaptığı duygu dolu konuşmalar ile ABD’nin geçmişindeki gururlu ve ihtişamlı günlerin hayalini kuran seçmenlerin her fırsatta ruhlarına hitap ediyor.   Büyük bir ihtimalle Kasım ayında Başkanlık koltuğuna oturacak Mitt Romney, “Artık sayfayı çevirmenin zamanı geldi. Demokratik Parti Ulusal Kurultayı'nda delegelerce onaylanan parti programı, özellikle kürtaj hakları, eşcinsel evlilikler, sağlık reformu, devletin yaşlı ve emeklilere sunduğu sağlık destek programı Medicare ve vergiler gibi sosyal alanlarda Cumhuriyetçi Parti'nin kurultayında kabul ettiği programdan keskin farklılıklar içeriyor.

Bu yol ile o ülkelerde uzun vadede ABD düşmanlığını artırır, istikrarı bozar, demokrasiyi ayaklar altına alır ve sonuçta iç savaş çıkmasına neden olursunuz.

Bir başkanın bu konuda yapması gerekenleri ABD tarihindeki onur, şeref ve haysiyet sahibi başkanları örnek alarak gerçekleştirebileceğini düşünüyorum.

ABD, tam 67 yıl önce Almanya ve Japonya’yı yerle bir ederek kayıtsız, şartsız teslim almıştı. Eğer onlara da bugün Müslüman ülkelerde uyguladığı yöntemleri uygulasaydı eminim Almanlar ve Japonlar şu anda dünyanın en büyük teröristleri olurdu. O yıllarda dünyanın gelmiş geçmiş en büyük totaliter devletleri Almanya ve Japonya’nın bugünkü başarılarına ulaşmasının mimarı ABD’nin bizatihi kendisidir. Kayıtsız şartsız teslim aldığı bu ülkelerde halkın refahı, şehirlerin imarı, demokrasinin yerleşmesi için büyük emek harcayan Amerikalıların o yıllardaki felsefesi ile bugünkü felsefesi arasında niye dağlar kadar fark var?
